One of the best ways to find a professional tattoo artist is by recommendation. If you know someone or have seen a tattoo that you like on someone else, ask them where they got their tattoo done. People are usually quite happy to volunteer that information, especially if they have had a good tattoo experience.

What if I don’t know someone who can give me a recommendation? How do I find a tattoo artist then?

There are many agencies you can approach to find yourself a tattoo artist. In the UK you can contact the Environmental Health Department and ask them for a list of tattoo artists registered with them that are in your area. If you live outside the UK, check with your local health department who may be able to point you in the right direction.

What to do once you have located a Tattoo Artist

Once you find the address of the tattoo studio, you should visit it on a day when it is quite busy so that you can see how it is operated, the types of people that are getting their tattoos done. You can take time to browse the tattoo artist’s work which is normally on display. You may also be able to see how the artist works.

Do not choose a busy day to ask questions of tattoo artists who may be working. If you like the studio then come back another day, or call and arrange for a consultation. Especially if you are aiming to get some customized work done.

Think before you Ink

If you are thinking of getting a tattoo, be sure you spend time considering what you want. Tattoos are meant to be permanent. Tattoo removal is expensive and can be painful. If you think you may want to remove a tattoo later, then don’t get one.
